Hi, Mrs. C. how did the tradition of having a bridal shower start?

Well, as far as i know the tradition of having a bridal shower started in Europe.  The story begins with when a young girl fell in love with a poor miller.  The girls' father, not being impressed with his daughters' choice decided to forbid her from marrying the miller and refused to grant the marriage dowry.  The miller's friends banded together and "showered" the young couple with everything they needed to start a home.  So, they say, that is how the tradition started.  Good friends showing how much they loved and appreciated the young couple.

Hi Mrs. C, I was wondering.  Are receiving lines really necessary?  I think it's too stuffy and formal and a little boring.  Can't we just say hi to everyone at the reception?

While you may feel that the receiving line is a little boring and stuffy do yourself and your groom a favor and have a receiving line.  Some people may not be able to come to your reception and they would like to say congratulations and best wishes to the bride and groom.  And you will not have time to say hi at the reception, you might get stuck talking to Aunt Edna about her health problems and how you were such a darling little girl, you will have missed the other people who have left the reception early.  So instead of people leaving your ceremony with hurt feelings because they did not get to talk to you and your new husband, have a receiving line, you'll be glad you did.

What does the "Day of Coordination Package" really offer?

First of all, "day of" isn't really day of.  I meet with you five weeks in advance of your wedding to get all of the information on the vendors that you have hired.  I will go with you on all of your "Final" meetings with you to get on "the same page" with everyone involved in your wedding.  That way i can do a great job for you and your vendors.  I will prepare a rehearsal and wedding day schedule for everyone to follow.  Coordinate your rehearsal, show everyone where to stand and help with the ring bearer and flower girl.  Coordinate your wedding ceremony, make sure bridesmaids and bride have their bouquets, pin on boutonnieres and corsages, cue the musicians, etc.  Coordinate your reception, line up bridal party for the grand entrance, coordinate with site manager for any problems, make sure to box up cake slices for bride and groom, work with DJ and photographer to make sure the timeline was on time, etc.  I am yours for 12 hours to make sure everything goes smoothly on your wedding day.  Why would you want to burden your mom, aunt, best friend or sister with all that?  Give me a call or email me.

I have recently converted to Judiaism.  Now that i am Jewish (my fiance' was raised Jewish) we have alot of questions about a Jewish wedding ceremony.  My first question is:  What is a "Huppah", and what do we do with it?

Congratulations on your conversion and your engagement!  While there are alot of traditional wedding rituals to consider in a Jewish ceremony it is not something that you need to be scared of.  A Chuppah is usually a canopy that is held overhead/aloft on four poles.  Many couples use a prayer shawl (tallit) belonging to a family member.  The Chuppah is a symbol of the home of the newly married couple.  It has also symbolized the tents of the tribes of Israel.  If you have any more questions please call or email me.

I am getting married for the second time to a wonderful guy, but i am feeling guilty about it.  My first husband passed away three years ago.  Do you have any suggestions on how to get pass the guilty feelings i am having?

What hidden fees should I be looking out for?

While the vendors that i work with are professional and ethical, there are some vendors that are not so straight forward.  Always ask your vendor about taxes and other fees.  Here some fees to look out for:  Corkage fees, cake-cutting fees and flower transport fees.  Always have everything in writing on your contract.

Am I required to provide my guests flight information?

Of course, a good host will provide any information that guests would require.  Lodging, flight and entertainment information.  If you need a directory of agents go to asta.org for more information.  Of hire a wedding planner/manager to do everything for you.

Do we have to feed our vendors?

Yes, of course if they are spending all day with you.  Especially your photographer, videographer, DJ and your wedding planner/manager.  Ask your caterer what the protocol is at the venue.  Usually the venue will provide a lower cost meal for the wedding vendors.

I have a clingy, spaghetti strap wedding dress.  How do I hide my nipples when they show?

If you have a wedding planner, she will definitely have something to hide them.  If you don't have a wedding planner, make sure you have an emergency kit with round band-aids to place underneath.

What can I do if I just can't stop crying?

Stop trying to stop yourself.  If you keep trying to stop yourself you just end up a blubbering mess.  Just let yourself cry.  There is no rule that says that you must be cool calm and collected, besides there might be some guests who will want to join you.  Remember these are tears of joy.  Just focus on your groom and enjoy the day.

How do I keep my lipstick on my lips and not on my teeth?

Just take a tip from beauty pagent participants.  Just dab a little vaseline on your front teeth and you can smile all day long.

Is it o.k. to send email wedding invites?

Please tell me this is a joke on Mrs. C.!?  No, no, no do not send email invites!  That is just not done!  Save that for bbq's and birthday parties for friends, it is not for one of the most important days of your life.  Please send friends and family a formal invitation to your wedding.  O.k i am breathing now.

This is probably a stupid question, but what do I do with my bouquet when I am standing at the altar?

First of all, there are no stupid questions.  Second, when the officiant says "please join hands" you hand your bouquet to your Maid of Honor.  After you have said your vows and before the officiant says "ladies and gentlemen I present to you, Mr. and Mrs. ......." your Maid of Honor hands your bouquet back to you for your recessional.

Is it o.k. to give each other a passionate kiss at our wedding?

That all depends on what your definition of passionate is.  It is not o.k. to give each other the tongue at your wedding, your parents and grandparents are watching.  Please the leave the pornographic stuff in your bedroom, swapping spit is unattractive.  Give each other a nice closed mouth kiss, leave the other stuff for your honeymoon.

Can I please ban my step-mother from my wedding photos?  She is the reason my parents broke up.

First of all you do not need my permission to ban anybody.  Second, be gracious and classy at your wedding.  Include her in some of your pictures.  Before picture time, please tell your photographer of the situation.  That way he can keep the "moms" apart and do get some beautiful pictures of just you and your mom.

6 - 12 months in advance.

How can I tell if I am driving my co-workers crazy with all of the talk about my wedding?

There is no polite way to say this, but just stop talking about it.  Your co-workers do not really care about all of the details of your wedding, especially if they have not been invited.  The only people who will care about your wedding are your close friends and family.  Everybody else, not so much.
